The Michigan Dance Council's Michigan Dance Festival is an annual community event celebrating the great diversity and talent of Michigan choreographers, dancers and dance educators. Once again, Oakland University has generously agreed to be the 2018 Michigan Dance Festival co-host.
how To participate
Each fall, the Michigan Dance Festival celebrates the great diversity of dance forms and culture throughout the state. The event is open to the public, where community members are invited to participate in various Master Classes, Summer Intensive Scholarship auditions, Workshops, MDC Showcase Gala Concert and Open Feedback Session.

Working with Special Populations (Janet Graetz, Oakland University)
In this workshop, Professor Graetz with discuss current practices in working with special needs students in the class room and how these apply to K-12 dance programs.
Session III: 3:00-4:15
The Future of K-12 Dance Education in Michigan (Annual Meeting)

MDC SHOWCASE GALA CONCERT
The MDC Showcase Gala Concert highlights the dance work of talented choreographers from around the state and features a professional Michigan-based dance company. This year's concert features the works of the selected finalists in the Maggie Allesee Choreography Award Competition.
THE MAGGIE ALLESEE CHOREOGRAPHY AWARD
A highlight of the concert is the presentation of the Maggie Allesee Choreography Award. This honor, which includes a monetary gift, is awarded to a Michigan choreographer for a work that exemplifies excellence in choreography, innovation, and performance quality. Finalists are selected through a two-tiered process: Round One adjudicators select 5-8 Finalists; Round Two adjudicators select the Maggie Award winner during the annual MDC Showcase Gala Concert.

Want to know more about Dance? Why choreographers do what they do? Stay after the concert for the Open Feedback Session, when the Maggie Judges share their thoughts with the choreographers about the works seen that night!
MDC ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
The MDC Annual Membership Meeting offers an opportunity for the public to network and share ideas about ADVANCING DANCE in MICHIGAN. During the meeting, the future of dance education in Michigan, current K-12 programs, and plans for certifying teachers will be discussed. MDC members also elect MDC Board Officers.
